Applied Digital Learning Journey Synthesis

A Reflection of My Journey

My Applied Digital Learning (ADL) journey began with curiosity and a desire to grow as a digital learner and educator. From the start, I was surrounded by supportive instructors, peers, and mentors who were essential in guiding and encouraging me. Throughout the process, there were highs—like successfully launching my innovation plan and building my ePortfolio—and lows, including moments of doubt, time constraints, and technical challenges. I experienced many emotions: excitement, frustration, pride, and perseverance. Over time, I created various projects, including a blended learning course, a professional presentation, and a digital portfolio that reflects my growth. I accomplished many course goals, such as designing a significant learning environment, applying learning theories, and developing a personal learning network. What worked well was staying committed to reflective practice and using feedback to improve my work. However, I could have taken more initiative in group collaboration and asked for help sooner during challenging moments. One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is the power of self-directed learning and how embracing discomfort can lead to meaningful growth. Now, I feel confident in my ability to lead with innovation and purpose in digital education. Moving forward, I plan to continue applying what I’ve learned by mentoring others, updating my innovation strategy, and exploring new ways to integrate technology into meaningful learning experiences.

What is the ADL program?

The Applied Digital Learning (ADL) program at Lamar University is a transformative, student-centered initiative that promotes innovation through collaboration and authentic learning experiences. By fostering significant learning environments and empowering learners with choice, ownership, and voice, the program prepares individuals to become forward-thinking digital leaders who can confidently navigate and shape the future of education and technology (Harapnuik, 2018).

My Innovation Plan

Over the past year in the ADL program, I have been developing and refining my innovation plan to implement ePortfolios in the ESL science classroom for emergent bilingual students. I am excited about the opportunities this initiative will create for both my students and myself as we embark on this journey together.
